Shakirah Dawud

It's always nice to get a personal visit once in a while!

My name is Taqiyyah Shakirah Dawud (and as a matter of fact, my family and friends call me Taqiyyah). Born and raised in Upstate New York, I'm now wedged halfway up the DC metro area's Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Literally. Behind a pewter SUV, ahead of a maroon Camry.

In 2000, I enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park as a microbiology major. I began editing freelance very soon afterward. As business grew, I received requests to write marketing material as well, and enjoyed (read: enjoy) it so much that I later switched to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for a bachelor's in Advertising.

As marketing project coordinator for DUS Family Medical Practice in Greenbelt, Maryland in 2005, I collaborated with other writers, designers and printers, overseeing projects from conception to print.

I currently proofread part time and write marketing materials fulltime from my home office. Family, reading, gardening, studying, and my calico Kitty keep me busy. When I'm not in traffic.
